Hello to all you mothers of the world living with a chronic illness!

This blog will feature my column from Literary Mama called, “Chronic Mamas.” This column is for women who are mothering within the restrictions of a chronic illness and will feature guest columnists such as Amy Tenderich who will write about being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes after the birth of her daughter, Rosalind Joffe who will write about working with MS and Andrea McDowell who will write about being a single mother and managing diabetes. I will write about my struggle to sometimes put myself and my medical needs before my children.

As women with chronic illnesses, we walk the road less traveled. We are mothers just like everyone else, caught in the balancing act of work, raising a family, having time for ourselves and our partners. We are also not like everyone else because we have Diabetes, Lupus, MS, Chronic Pain and Depression. We are mothers first, and so we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves and so we forge ahead, under the weight of medications, complications, pain, emotional and physical pain to raise our children. We want to teach our children that no matter the circumstances, they can do anything they set their minds to, just like their mother.
